Basketball Update 2-6-07

In today's basketball clash the Rams of Good Shepherd took on Christ Lutheran. While the Lady Rams fell to defeat the boys took home another win.
For the Lady Rams it was a hard fought and well played game that in the end just didn't turn out the way they would have liked. Ally led the team in scoring and also had 4 rebounds to go with 2 steals while Tiffany dominated the boards with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Caryn had 2 points and 2 steals and Jessica C. had 2 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Casey rounded out the scoring with 2 points to go along with her 5 rebounds and 1 steal. The girls next game is against ECS this Friday the 9th.

For the boys it was another win and more improvement from the team as a whole. The team is really starting to come together at just the right time and playing true team basketball. Chris Barr again led the scoring with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals but it was his passing that made a big difference in this game. While those stats are impressive the Player of the Game goes to Ricky Bethune. Playing the 3 spot on defense he had 6 steals and many more deflected passes. He also had 4 points and a rebound. Kolby was also his usual aggressive self and 3 points, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds. Matt Hellier returned from being sick to have his best offensive game this season with 6 points. He also had 2 steals and a rebound. R.J. Briggs, with 2 steals, came up big again on defense and caused many turnovers and even took one for the team when he got hit in the face. Don't worry big guys I'm not leaving you out. Credit to all our big guys who fought hard to keep their 6 foot 3 inches center off the glass and out of the paint. T.J., who grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 points, especially has shown he can be physical no matter who he goes up against. Props go to Brandon Makar who fought as a big man for part of the game and ran the offense as the point guard for a while too and certainly had the pass of the game. He had 2 points and 3 rebounds as well. Zach continued to be an anchor in the middle of defense and had 2 points, 2 steals, and 2 rebounds. John also continues to be someone the team can count on with his good hands and solid shooting. Tonight he scored 6 points and had 5 rebounds. Last, but certainly not least would be Timmy and Destin. I want to say how much both of these players have improved. Destin has missed lots of time from being sick, but stepped in and played defense and never missed a beat. Timmy meanwhile has become more and more confident with the ball each game and made some key passes in tonight's game.
We will need all of these boys contributions on Friday when the Rams take on ECS at their place. Hope to see you there.

In Him,
Coach Neff
